PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE

Apprentice to a Mexican Tattoo Artist from the Gulf Coast/East coast of Mexico, working in both Mexico and Canada.

Common apprentice tasks can include, but not limited to:

  • Making, refining, editing, creating stencils, either from already existing work that is often and commonly highly requested in tattoo shops or working on original artwork by hand or by using Ipad or phone.

  • Help with preparation and specific setup before a client and then proper safe clean up and disposal after a tattooing session

  • Using ones learned theoretical knowledge in a practical environment

  • Assessing inventory when needed

  • Keeping updated on new or alternative products (Inks, Cartridges etc), regulations, ink/cartridge recalls etc.

  • Proper disposing of Used Needle Cartridges and any left-over ink at specific drop-off Recycling Centres.

  • Practice tattooing on a regular basis in a tattoo shop environment, going through every step properly, including pre-tattoo and post-tattoo safety procedures

  • Tattooing on real client skin while being supervised by Tattoo Mentor

  • Learning to use Dry Heat machine for sterilization when needed and how to test it’s proper sterility is functioning
